Lessons Afield: Adventures in Nature; Wiley, Haven

$20.00

Haven Wiley taught field biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for forty years. He has experienced the invigorating laughter and enthusiasm of his students outdoors. In the field often with students, he has occasionally sensed that something important has happened, perhaps an epiphany.  In this book he shares some of those moments. Many of them happened in North Carolina, often at his university’s Mason Farm Biological Reserve, sometimes farther afield, twice even in tropical rainforests, but always while looking and listening. In these episodes you will find Hooded Warblers, Chimney Swifts, Fire Pinks, a Bufflehead, Marbled Salamanders, Beavers, Wood Thrushes, and other living things, as well as the many students who were sometimes there too.
